Review

There's nothing like the feeling of buying a brand new car. The shiny paint, the new car smell of the interior. Everything just feels so fresh and it gives you one of life's natural highs. But if you really want to amplify that feeling and make it last, the Hyundai Accent might be for you.

Not only does it have a super affordable entry price, but a five star ANCAP rating, Apple CarPlay, an amazing 5 year, unlimited kilometre warranty and roadside assistance. A spacious interior and boot, gutsy engine upgrade and a positively vibrant colour range make the Accent impossible to resist.

So much for the money

The new Accent range consists of the Sport model, in either sedan or hatch, six-speed manual or six-speed sports automatic. The value for money Hyundai have put into this car shows they haven't lost their way. The old 1.4-litre engine has been replaced with a much gutsier 1.6-litre, developing the kind of power you'd expect from a larger car, while fuel economy is still outstanding.

A full colour touch screen comes standard, with radio, Bluetooth and music control at your fingertips, supplemented by audio controls on the steering wheel. Speaking of steering wheel, it's a premium item with cruise control buttons to maintain a safe, effortless speed on the freeway to give your ankles a break.

Power windows for all four windows- not just two like some other small cars in its class.

Stylish and special

No bargain basement hubcaps here, thanks. Would you believe that the Accent Sport comes standard with stylish 16-inch alloy wheels? The fancy looking items just help your new car stand out that bit more, where many in the same price range will insult you with plastic nasty wheel covers. Another sign of Hyundai's commitment to value is the full size spare tyre, which many new cars are missing out on.

Whether you like more subtle tones or shouty, radiant hues, Accent's colour palate can cater to you. Chalk White and Lake Silver will appeal to more conventional tastes, while Pulse Red has a rich burgundy tone to it, Sunflower Yellow lets your personality shine on the road, Blue Lagoon has a quiet depth to it and Phantom Black.

Our verdict

For the amount of money Hyundai asks for the Accent, you get far, far more than you would expect. Although this is one of the older vehicles in its class, Hyundai has cleverly kept it fresh with equipment and engine upgrades, offering a cool range of colours and a warranty that has the other car brands crying into their lunch.

Add the fact that Hyundai has done much better than most other car makers in recent quality surveys and you can bet that new car feeling won't just be a flash in the pan, it will last well into the relationship.
